Kanye West ft. Chris Martin - “Homecoming” (Music Video)

Kanye West is back with his fourth video from his Graduation album entitled “Homecoming” featuring Chris Martin.

Kanye West is Jordan and Jay-Z is Pippen

With or without this article, the title alone will stir up much debate and arguments; however, there has never been a much more truthful statement when comparing the two hip-hop elites.

To find truth in this statement, you have to look at who Jay-Z is (and was) and not who he tells you he is (and used to be). If you rewind back to the year 2000, Jay was one of the best rappers in the game—with emphasis on ‘ONE OF’. As much as New York natives and die-hard ‘Hov’ fans beg to differ, Jay-z was NOT rap royalty at this point. Whether you remember or not, rap music during this period was ruled by none other than Eminem—who released the Marshall Mathers LP in May of 2000. The Marshall Mathers LP reached heights (in critical acclaim and sales) that NO other rap album in history has ever reached.

In 2001, Jay-Z released his first album where the critic’s views coincided with record sales: ‘The Blueprint.’ ‘The Blueprint’ is arguably one of the best rap albums to ever be recorded, as its soulful ambience left listeners with a feeling they may have never experienced while listening to a rap record.

You may ask: If Jay-Z was a good rapper in 2000, but became someone who is in a league of his own in 2001, what could have possibly triggered this major change in only one year?

Answer: Kanye West.

Where would ‘The Blueprint’ be without ‘Never Change’, ‘ Heart of the City’, and most notably ‘Takeover’? Hell, where would Jay-Z be without these tracks?

It’s one to be the biggest rap star; it’s another to be a big pop star. As soft as the word ‘pop’ seems to hardcore rap fans, all of raps greatest can be considered ‘pop’ for how ‘popular’ their music is (i.e. 2pac, BIG, Run DMC, Eminem, etc). Realizing the difference between the two, Jay and his team needed a song for his next album that would get as much play on TRL as it would on 106 and Park.

Enter Kanye with the track for ’03 Bonnie and Clyde.’ This song, with the help of Ms. Beyonce Knowles, was a smash hit and elevated Jay-Z to yet another level in his career.

Thanks Kanye.

One of the major attributes that separated Michael Jordan from his NBA counterparts was that he was known to make other players around him better. This is something that Kanye always has done, and continues to do.

Here is a list of people ‘Ye has made better throughout his career:

Talib Kweli (90% of people reading this can not spit one verse from a Talib song that was made before his track ‘Get By’…which was produced by Kanye)

Common (everyone wants to claim they have liked Common for years, but lets be truthful for a minute…his album ‘Be’ is the reason he is now a household name and opened doors for his movie roles)

Keyshia Cole (unknown in anywhere other than Oakland before her hit ‘I Changed My Mind’…she rose to the top and has yet to look back)

Consequence and GLC (Hate on them if you want, but it’s a fact that everyone here has listened to ‘Spaceship’ on Kanye’s ‘College Dropout’ album whenever they feel down and out at their job)

And of course, the biggest person on this list is Jay-Z.

Who has Jay-Z made better? Memphis Bleek? Peedi Crack? Beanie Siegel? Lady Soverign?

Before Kanye, Jay was wearing big t-shirts and Rocawear jean suits. Now whenever President Carter pops up on your local blog with Beyonce, he is dressed to impress with everything from designer shades to upscale scarves (items people laughed at Kanye for wearing because “rappers don’t dress that way”).

Thanks again Louis Vuitton Don.

Oh, and speaking of Beyonce, where was she before ‘The Blueprint’ Album??

Case Closed.

With all this in mind, it really isn’t hard to see why Kanye is Michael Jordan and Jay-Z is Scottie Pippen.

Sorry Jay, the truth is the truth.
