Looks like Diddy’s got another ‘Bad Girl’ to add to the females on his label. Janelle Monae, formally signed to Big Boi’s label, Purple Ribbon, has just been added as Bad Boy’s newest princess. Monae, a Kansas native, is being hailed the female version of both Prince and Andre 3000 by her music industry peers. Her futuristic pop sound is a nice breath of fresh air in a suffocating music sea of what’s all beginning to sound the same. Something new for the people… basically what the industry has been lacking.
But what does this mean for Diddy’s current female solo artist, Cheri Dennis? Cheri has already been struggling with being in the shadows of label mates Danity Kane and Cassie, and now with the February release of her album In and Out of Love, Cheri was set to finally get some industry attention. It’s not clear yet whether or not Jonelle Monae’s music and recent addition to the Bad Boy family will outshine Cheri once again, but we’re sure Cheri can’t be too happy.
“I’m still under the bus,” said Cheri facetiously when asked about her new label mate. “I’m sorry I can’t come up for that question. But, I think she’s phenomenal. She used to be signed to Big Boi [of Outkast]. And that’s all I’ll say about that”
