Ashanti to play Dorothy in “The Wiz”!
Thursday, April 30th 2009

You can catch Ashanti on the Yellow Brick Road pretty soon.

She’ll make her stage debut this summer as Dorothy in a revival of “The Wiz”, the soul-tinged version of the classic L. Frank Baum story. She also played Dorothy in the made-for-television movie “The Muppets’ Wizard of Oz.”

The musical will run June 12 through July 5 at New York City Center as part of its “Encores! Summer Stars” series.

Ummmm I can’t see her singing Home ala Diana Ross and Stephanie Mills. Stephanie Mills was a Flippin Vocal Titan. I don’t like remakes when the person who sings them ain’t really vocally up to par. I need them to do the remakes justice. Like Beyonce and JHud in Dreamgirls…so on and so forth. She ain’t got the Chops…sorry. The Wiz is a flippin classic stage play. And the cast was vocally brilliant and gifted. These are on the few plays of my childhood that I don’t want to see all Mediocre and ish LOL
