Usher’s new wife and recent mother of his first child, Tameka Foster, recently spoke to Essence Magazine on her view of mlack media and black women in particular:
“We (black women) don’t like ourselves. If I were Hispanic, Usher would have the sexiest wife alive. If I were mixed, he’d have the sexiest wife alive. “But he has a black girl, and it’s like, ‘She’s horrible and she’s ugly!’ “OK, maybe I don’t fit the cookie-cutter standard - 25 and a size two - but this is who he loves.” “There are women getting raped in Darfur, young girls being turned out every single day right here in Atlanta. We have bigger issues to worry about than two people in love with each other.”
Patti LaBelle, who refers to Foster as her “second daughter”, backs her up:
“Tameka is a pretty Black woman who has been married before… but Usher knows her past and he loves her.”
You know what Tameka, I like you! I do believe people, black, white or other, do have an issue with standards of beautiful. But that’s not what made me yelp out loud my love for her. I love that she pointed out that there are more important issues to discuss and address than other people’s business.

The problem is you are an opportunist girl. you profit of Usher inexperience in love, deserves on him much “fake-love story” to get married and share his incoming money. Don’t believe the hype. Let’s not forget that Chilli was older than Usher, too. Did Black people rail against her? Tameka’s statement doesn’t pan out when you look at couples like Bee & Jay, Will & Jada, Kenny Lattimore & Chante Moore, Tracey Edmonds & Eddie Murphy … the list goes on and on. While I think it is very TRUE that she has gotten a lot of negative attention that was very UNwarranted, I think the reason she gives for it is false. It is a cop out and it makes Black people look bad. Keep the focus on the real issues: #1 - people are jealous, white or black #2 - she doesn’t have a great reputation and that’s what people are reacting to, more than anything. As for Lindsay and Britney, the white blogs (if you wanna consider PerezHilton that, even though he is Latino) trash them on the daily. The only people supporting them are their fans and concerned people who want them to seek help. They’re no favorites, by far.
Tameka, I don’t think the problem is that black women isn’t happy with themselves. The problem is how the media portrayed how your relationship came about. You being the cause of the break up with Chili, you already having a family and divorcing your husband for Usher. This may have never been the case and you know people is going to take what they hear first hand and run with it. Then all of a sudden the hating comes into the picture. And people will start to judge how they feel. All in all, people will talk just let it be and live your happy life. It really has nothing to do with the way you look. It just took fans by surprise and they didn’t know how to react to it. I guess they expected usher to be single forever!
