Former TLC member T-Boz recently said what was on all of our minds about the whole Kelly Rowland and Mathew Knowles management situation…
When you hear stories about what’s going on with Destiny’s Child and Kelly Rowland having to fire Matthew Knowles to finally get attention, what are your thoughts?
T-Boz: They get mad when I say this, but I don’t give a damn. It was all about Beyonce anyway. She was my favorite, too, but come on. Her parents are over everything. Who do you think they were going for? It’s always Beyonce. It was supposed to be exactly the way it is now, Bey is on top. I love Beyonce, and I am a fan of hers. She was my favorite in the group even before they were Destiny’s Child and they were the Baby Dolls. She was so cute and pretty. I like all of them, and I wish Kelly the best. When you’re in a girl group, you have differences, and you have to learn how to respectfully agree to disagree. There are a lot of things that happen behind the scenes that people don’t know about. Some girl groups have girls trying to steal other girls’ boyfriends and that’s the ultimate no-no. You have situations like the Kelly thing and Beyonce’s parents. You can say that I’m out for everybody, but if Lisa was to bring somebody in that’s her boyfriend, then I’m gonna feel like you got Lisa’s back more than mine, and that’s gonna be a no-no. I just think that brings a conflict of interest in the beginning. That would have been a hard group for me to be in, because I would have been like your mommy and daddy are running things and they’re gonna have you at heart the most. That’s just how I feel.

Of course… Beyonce was always the main one in the spotlight, always in the middle, always the lead singer in MOST of the songs. It was and still is very obvious from the jump. Sucks too ’cause Kelly is VERY talented but because of the fact Beyonce family runs every damn thing from the group to the clothes they wear. Kelly never had fair shot to begin with…. I’m rooting for the underdog. Kelly will make her way through all of this. She’s a GOD fearing woman so I know she will be just fine! ;0)
Um…I really don’t understand all this…c’mon…Beyonce was the one with the talent so she was alwayz placed on the front line and I don’t blame her parents because she got IT…that’s why they gave more attention to her…I alwayz loved Destiny’s Child as a group…alot of ppl say Bs dad wasn’t fare to Kelly…trust me if he couldn’t make Solange a mega star…I don’t think he intended things to happen the way it did but as I said…B got IT
I LMAO when I read this yesterday. She right though. Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, and the Blind Boys of Alabama could see it was all about Bey from the beginning. Kelly was always my favorite though. She held it down for the Dark Slim sistas of the world Shoot!
Said what??? If you’re not gonna keep it real…close your mouth. The interviewer didn’t ask her who was her favorite. They asked what were her feelings about Kelly firing Matthew. Yes…she stated that it was centered around Beyonce. But if you’re gonna tell some…then tell all. That sh*t was messed up. Matthew manipulated all of those girls in the past, including Kelly. Purposely sabatoged everyone’s career in the sake of Beyonce.
So when the girl finally comes to that conclusion and fire him; then she’s suddenly dropped from the label. Oh that’s too much of a coincidence. I see why they don’t want you to talk Tboz. Your comments are off the topic. While the question is about Kelly, she is steadily glorifying Beyonce.
i just feel like they didn’t stand a chance in the beginning. remember when letoya and latavia fired mathew knowles as their manager? they said they still wanted to be in the group, but papa knowles wasn’t having it. and kelly got dropped right after she fired mathew knowles too? something’s up with that dude that i just don’t like. he’s a father first before he’s a businessman, that’s for sure. that’s why you shouldn’t mix business with pleasure. Beyonce is just caught in the line of fire because she is the one being praised even though i think she is the most talented of the group and deserves every bit of fame she has. the others were just screwed from jump to me…
oh, and another thing…the music industry is a business. it sucks but that’s just the way it is. if you aren’t pulling in the numbers (especially now), they aren’t going to continue to invest their time and money on your ass…you’ll get dropped quick! that’s how it works and thats a risk artists have to be willing to expect. she’ll bounce back though. now that she’s free, she’s probably more hungry than ever.
Maybe Destiny Child should have voted Matty Knowles out the pic a long time ago but you have to ask yourself how successful would they have been. Common sense should have told the broad that once the group broke up that was the perfect time to find new management as well. I wish Kells the best
@ BUNZ09 - I AGREE! let’s keep it real tho, how you gonna fault the man for looking out for his own? the other parents should have stepped up and made sure they were getting it for their kids just like he got it for his. and kelly is gonna be fine. Latoya is fine, got her own business and music goin so… i don’t understand why this gotta be beyonce’s fault. that girl works hella hard she deserves her success just like any other hard working person. do any of ya’ll expect to be paid less cuz your co-worker ain’t making it? HELLLLLL NAWWWW!
I think it’s crazy that everyone would blame Matthew or Beyonce for Kelly’s fate when it’s the FANS that make the artist. If the FANS like it, it’s good. Soulja Boy is a GREAT example of that. His raps are among the CORNIEST that I’ve ever seen, yet he’s a platinum selling artist and has already reached millionaire status. WTF?? Who woulda thunkit? YAHH TRICK YAHHHHHH is making that kinda money?

Contrary to popular belief, Matthew had NOTHING to do with Kelly’s lack of FAN SUPPORT. He isn’t holding up record stores or I-tunes FORCING people NOT to buy her music.
Plain and simple: Beyonce is a BETTER PERFORMER. Her shows (live) are pretty killer. She has all the right moves, outfits AND vocals and people are PAYING top dollar to see her. ALL of her shows sell out. Who bought tickets to see Kelly?
Same goes for Michelle. She can honestly sing her butt off. Was she overshadowed in the “group”? A little, but she’s no longer in the group and how big is her career? Where are her fans? That was rhetorical…all of Kelly, Latoya, Letavia & Michelle’s fans are out supporting Beyonce!
I agree with T-Boz. Beyonce was always int he front singing her ass off and the other two were second fiddle. The sad part about all of this…they were all better as a group, even Beyonce. Don’t get me wrong, she is the only one that has been able to hold down the fort by herself, but I cant help but imagine how bomb Get Me Bodied would have been with Kelly and Michelle on the track. The new album? shit on a platter, clearly.
You’re a fool if you think just fan support gets you in this industry, its all about deals and promos. Look at Rihanna, she was cool from the jump, but because she continued to turn in hit after hit, all financed by media deals, she became a ****ing star. Kelly’s album was on point! she really came with it, but her A&R was just awful!
No one even remembers Michelle’s R&B album, partly because the album wasnt R&B at all, it was definately Pop with a Dance edge. The album was awesome, but the day her album dropped, Beyonce premiered not one, but two new videos.
Thats the issue, Beyonce’s PR overshadows the other two. If you ask me, they need to shut up and get back together and make good music!

APAINE and CONTROVERSY, you make some valid points. However, fan support comes at the backend of the process. Before an artist even grows a fan base, they need good marketing, timing, publicity, promotion and management. All are essential elements to catapult an artist into super stardom. It’s why so many artists have left Bad Boy. They just weren’t getting the proper resources and attaention. My job is promoting and marketing artists and getting them exposure. When we sign an act, they become a product and our job is to make sure we sell the hell out of each product to the point the audience feels like they NEED it.
Matthew fell short on that front with the other girls because his relationship as a Father and a manager to the whole group was a conflict of interest in the first place. Same thing with Diddy and his artists. Him being a label head and an artist conflicted with him properly promoting and marketing for his label mates and employees.
Matthew’s a savvy biz man though. He saw something special in Bey and he took his best selling product and promoted the hell out of it and got a huge pay off. Now it’s time for Kelly to smarten up and get with someone who can sell the hell out of her.
I’ve dealt with Music World (Matthew’s management co) and they are some shady individuals. I won’t go into detail, but they do a lot of strong arming in the industry to get things done for Bey and only Bey. It’s not her fault, but Daddy is a hustler and some of his strategies are a litle unorthodox in my opinion.
@ OLUVLEE1 - i hear you. i hope kelley gets someone who will work as hard for her as m.k. does for beyonce (minus the shadiness). it sucks but unfortunately it’s a dog eat dog world in the entertainment biz. kelly is old enough to know that now. she need to get her brass knuckles on.
I definitely agree. Even if Beyonce did have the best voice,with your parents running things, everything is gonna be in your favor anyway. I am a fan of Kelly Rowland also, but I don’t think that she makes a great soloist.

Even though there’s so much to their story… I still believe Matthew was shady to the other girls… On I believe it an E channel special or something they talked to the ex Destiny’s Child members… LeToya said she couldn’t understand why Beyonce was in a Jaguar and her mother was in some beat up car I can’t remember… She was also like there were times where she couldn’t pay her cellphone bill…
this all seems crazy coming from t-boz. Every group has a standout/lead singer and ironically Tionne “T-BOZ” Watkins was the lead singer for tlc….she did 80% of the vocals…..Supremes/diana ross, dru hill/ sisqo, etc
WELP. IMMA SAY THIS. FROM THE JUMP….FROM THE FIRST SINGLE NO NO NO, TO THE SECOND ALBUM, TO LETOYA AND LATIVA SAYING FORGET THIS, TO THE REPLACEMENTS, TO FARRAH DROPPIN OUT THE GROUP WAS OBVIOUS. BUT IT WAS CRYSTAL CLEAR THAT DADDY KNOWLES DROPS BEY’S ALUBM AND SHITTIN ON KELLY’S HELL EVEN ON MICHELLE. KELLY’S FIRST ALBUM HAD A GREAT BANGER WITH NELLY BUT BEY HAD TO JUS MAKE THINGS WORST BY HOGGIN THE LIMELIGHT, EVEN THO KELLY’S FIRST ALBUM WAS GARBAGE. SMFH I BROUGHT THAT ALBUM. She should already know, there’s no way in hell Kelly would have followed Mister Matthews for long if something wasn’t up, and believe me the whole wide whittle world knows now.
